Skeleton sheet. This chapter has the metadata block and Core / Rotation / Reference tables but has not yet been rewritten to the shape of chapter-01.md and chapter-02.md—no first-session walkthrough, no worked advancement example, no per-exercise rationale. See chapter-template.md for the shape this sheet will take when filled, and DEVELOPMENT.md “Things to do later” for the outstanding propagation work.
Session role: focus block.
Every session opens with warm-up on the current R&L Ch. 1 exercises before you work this chapter. Baseline 30-min session: ~7–8 min warm-up (Ch. 1) → ~15 min focus (this chapter) → ~5–6 min application → ~2 min cool-down. Full detail in approach.md §6.
This chapter is a probe, not a mastery target. Stage 4 of approach.md §5 says explicitly: visit, do not camp. The whole point of touching R&L Ch. 8 is to feel what 32nd-note and 32nd-note-triplet density does to the body, the ear and the metronome—so that when you return to Stage 2, 3, 5 or 6 material, the earlier subdivisions feel less alien.
There is no core list, no starting-and-target bpm table and no “done” state. The exercises are here so you can pick one, sit with it, and leave. R&L notes that many of the beats are “very challenging but not impossible” and that all of them are playable at a variety of tempos—that framing matters. You are not chasing the printed bpm; you are learning the feel of the density.
approach.md §4 sets a starting bpm of 40 for this material and explicitly writes “no aspirational target—this chapter is a probe”. That is the rule for this sheet too.
Pick a session where the earlier chapters feel stable, and give R&L Ch. 8 a 10–15 minute slot. Choose one exercise. Play it slowly (well below any comfort ceiling) for 1 minute. Notice where it breaks down—placement, endurance, articulation, or nerve. Log what you noticed and move on. Do not try to fix what broke; the point is exposure, not resolution.
Suggested probing paths, in order of increasing demand:
Log this chapter’s work with the exercise number prefixed by 8.—for example 8.1 40 bpm 15 min probe weak-foot-dying. probe is a legitimate verdict here in addition to pass / near / fail. See approach.md §8.
